Your tour guide, that’s me, Karen Vivers.
Originally I’m from Scotland but have eaten my way to Amsterdam via London and Portugal. First and foremost I love food and I love the city of Amsterdam.
I’ve lived here since 1997 and after having worked in lots of corporate and hospitality environments, I started my own delicatessen in 2000. Which, to my great joy was voted by a committee of national experts as being one of the best food speciality stores in the country. We had a fabulous assortment of wine, cheeses and meats sourced from artisanal producers in the Netherlands and Europe. I accompanied this with my own product range. After winning this accolade and being given the title by “Lekker” magazine as the cheese fondue specialist and a cooking spot on AT5 (Amsterdam TV) I decided it was time for a new adventure.
And so, in 2010 I started The Cooking Coach, originally to teach people to cook and to use my business experience by working on a consultancy basis to help small and medium sized food businesses reach their potential. As time went on writing about food and food tours took over.
I have a passion for good, honest food and for the people who produce and sell it.
